Sleep coaching works best when it meets the needs of the whole family. The strategy and action plan has to respect parenting style, the baby’s or child’s personality and empower parents with skills to use in the future. It is important to take into account environment, diet, temperament, lifestyle and parental wishes. My work although gentle and respectful is very much in tune with evidence based research in order to be age appropriate. I do not advocate methods that involve leaving a baby to cry it out alone.
I practice either by offering a home visit or virtual package to discover what gentle methods would be the best fit for your family. Once you are happy and confident with the bespoke action plan I support you weekly for the next six weeks making any necessary adjustments and offering insight and support either by telephone or email.

Help my Baby Sleep! For babies under six months
At this age sleep is greatly misunderstood. Old wives tales, ominous warnings from grandparents about picking a baby up and unfavourable comparisons to the one baby you know of, that is sleeping through the night already. Research informs us that sleep is influenced by brain development and that under six months night time feeding is normal and babies need help in learning to self-regulate.
Sleep training is not appropriate for those under six months of age due to mental and physical developmental changes at this time. Many parents have unrealistic expectations of how a baby sleeps triggered by old fashioned advice or knowing of one baby in their peer group that has apparently ‘slept through the night’ at a young age. The support that offered for this age involves a variety of gentle soothing techniques, learning about sleep biology and setting realistic achievable goals that do not interfere with feeding, do not break trust or stress the baby and are respectful of your parenting style. We will explore many soothing techniques to help your baby feel secure, work on sleep cues from you to baby and from baby to you, help improve your sleep, diet and energy levels to get the best possible support for you in this period. I have a university qualification in postnatal facilitation and am well placed to support both you and your baby in this period . You will be able to use many of these soothing techniques after the six month period to help your baby sleep . If you have any questions please do contact me for a free telephone call. If you decide to proceed I will support you by a home visit or telephone call, sleep diary analysis to see any patterns and will support you for six weeks after the home visit or call once per week.
